Out-of-Network Insurance

If you have out-of-network benefits for mental health, you may be eligible for reimbursement based on your individual policy. Client will need to contact insurance company to discuss reimbursement. Here are some helpful questions you can ask:

  • What are my out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • Do I have deductible? If so, what is covered after the deductible is met?

  • Do I require a pre-authorization for my out of network benefits?

  • What is the reimbursement I will receive for a CPT code of 90837? (This is what you will be reimbursed for most sessions with your therapist).

The therapist will provide the appropriate documents for the client to submit to the insurance company.

Your Choice, Your Care- Understanding Insurance & Private Pay Options:

While many clients choose to use insurance, others prefer private pay for a variety of personal and practical reasons.

  • Confidentiality: Insurance requires sharing personal health information with third parties. Private pay allows for a higher level of privacy, as your information is not submitted to insurance companies or stored in broader medical records systems.

  • Diagnosis Requirements: Most insurance plans require a mental health diagnosis to authorize and continue treatment. With private pay, therapy can focus on personal growth, life transitions, or stress without the need for a formal diagnosis. We strongly believe that you have the right to seek out help without an indefinite label that may very well be a transitional issue.

  • Treatment Optimization: Insurance may limit the type, frequency, or duration of sessions. Private pay offers greater flexibility, allowing treatment to be tailored to your individual needs and pace without external restrictions.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, and we’re happy to help you explore what option feels most aligned with your goals and comfort.

Your Rights: No Surprises Act

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost before your first appointment. Waypoints Counseling will provide a Good Faith Estimate for any client who is uninsured or chooses not to use insurance benefits. For more information, visit cms.gov/nosurprises.
